Our Welfare system is not functioning well

“I don’t agree that our welfare system is working well.
“Why do 6% of people between the ages of 18 and 64 receive unemployment benefits when so many sectors need labor? The mayor of Westland County Council turned to the radio yesterday and begged people to come and fill the vacancies, but 1,500 people are receiving County Unemployment Council funding in Greymouth and Westport.
“In New Zealand it is too easy to live and stay well. Reducing the use of penalties for imposing work obligations has made work easier. Recently, thousands of single-parent grant applicants were moved because they no longer have to look for work. Policy settings have changed. It is now acceptable to continue adding children so that they do not work on the grant. This is not "working well". "Social security system.
